Review: If You're Reading This It's Too Late by Pseudonymous Bosch

By Pseudonymous Bosch

Summary (From the inside flap this time):
Beware!

Dangerous secrets lie between the pages of this book.

OK, I warned you. But if you think I'll give anything away, or tell you that this is the sequel to my first literary endeavor,
The Name of This Book is Secret, you're wrong.

I'm not going to remind you of how we last left our heroes, Cass and Max-Ernest, as they awaited intiation into the mysterious Terces Society, or the ongoing fight against the evil Dr. L and Ms. Mauvais. I certainly won't be telling you about how the kids stumble upon the Museum of Magic, where they finally meet the amazing Pietro!

Oh, blast! I've done it again. Well, at least I didn't tell you about the missing Sound Prism, the nefarious Lord Pharaoh, or the mysterious creature born in a bottle over 500 years ago, the key to the biggest secret of all.

I really can't help myself, now can I? Let's face it---if you're reading this, it's too late.

Review:
This book wasn't as good as the rest. I really love The Secret Series but this one just didn't appeal to me as much as the other 3 did. (Reviews coming)

This book is mainly about alchemy, I am sorry, but alchemy does NOT appeal to me at all. I have to admit, I did like reading it, it just wasn't as amazing.

The villains of this story are trying to find a way to create life. AKA a homonculus. Too bad it's not possible in real life. I am a Christian and so this book doesn't catch my eye very well.

Cass is different in this one, I like her in this one way better then the first. I don't know why. She is somehow smarter in my eyes and more caring. Max-Ernest is sort of stubborn in this one, but I can't tell you why. I think I've said enough! Well almost.

Now the setting in this story, I really liked. Just the way the author described it made it seem so real and beautiful. Need I say more?

Review: Finally 12 by Wendy Mass

By Wendy Mass
Summary:
After her twelfth birthday, Rory checks off a list of things she is finally allowed to do, but unexpected consequences interfere with her involvement in the movie being shot at her school, while a weird prediction starts to make sense.

My Review:
This book is a great read.

Rory Swenson (or Swensen) is a newly, 12 year old girl with really protective parents. She had made a list of all the things that she wanted to do when she was 12. Not all of them turn out too right. Which makes this book hilarious. Especially when everything goes wrong for her.

I really liked her name. Rory. It's a pretty name when I think of it. A lot of people in the book thinks that it is a boy name. Now I completely disagree with them.

Wendy Mass is a great young adult and middle grade writer. She always makes a magical twist to the story. Which is one of my favorite things about this book.

The cover of this book pulled me in. I don't know why. It doesn't tell us anything about it. The colors are the thing that Wendy Mass always does with the cover which always happens to pull me into it.

I don't want to tell you too much. But what she goes through would be pretty sad for her, but not for the reader. When she figures out something in the end, it complete's the book.

I hope you get a chance to read it.

Important Information about The Secret Series (The Name of This Book is Secret)

Do you guys remember my first review I ever did? Well I found out some information that I should have included . If you haven't read my review CLICK HERE to read it before you read this post. There is a magician in it, his name is Pietro. He has something called, synesthesia. Synesthesia is a thing where you see your alphabet and numbers in color. Each one has it's own color. Some types when you hear a certain noise, color will just pop up in geometric shapes right before your eyes! Some when people taste something they here a noise or feel something in their hand. There is not a certain pattern really. If one person feels something in their hand when they eat and orange other people will hear something, taste something, see something, or smell something. Now when I was researching, I came across this interview with Pseudonymous Bosch. (http://rubywinkle.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/bosch/) If you look at question six and the answer it says:
There is a not-so-secret secret pattern to the Secret Series. Each book concerns one of the five senses. Book 1, which features a box of scented vials called the Symphony of Smells, concerns the sense of smell. Book 2, which features a magical ball of sound called the Sound Prism, concerns hearing. Book 3 has the Tuning Fork and concerns taste–in particular the taste of chocolate. Book 4 I am working on now and I don’t want to give too much away. But it’s going to be called THIS ISN’T WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE and it concerns the sense of sight naturally. That leaves, you guessed it, touch for Book 5.
I think that this is piece of information that is interesting and shares a little more about the book.

Review: 11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass

By Wendy Mass

Book Summary:
It's Amanda's 11th birthday and she is super excited -- after all, 11 is so different from 10. But from the start, everything goes wrong. The worst part of it all is that she and her best friend, Leo, with whom she's shared every birthday, are on the outs and this will be the first birthday they haven't shared together. When Amanda turns in for the night, glad to have her birthday behind her, she wakes up happy for a new day. Or is it? Her birthday seems to be repeating iself. What is going on?! And how can she fix it? Only time, friendship, and a little luck will tell. . .

My Review:
The cover of this book just pops out at you doesn't it? The colors and the name are the things that reeled me in. In my opinion, the cover is just as impressive as the writing inside.

On Amanda's 11th birthday she can't spend it with her best friend Leo. Her birthday repeats itself. Over, and over, and over. She has to find a way to get out of it. The magical twist is what makes this book so great.

The author really takes you along with the characters. They make everything a mystery from the beginning to the end. The first chapter is  all about when Amanda and Leo were just babies. And the second tells memories from the children's past birthday's. I love all the memories they've made and that they've spent every single birthday together.

I really can't chose a favorite character in this book. Even if I tried, I couldn't all the characters were well thought out and have very interesting personalities.

This book I would suggest for middle graders. This is another one of those long books though. It is about 270 pages. But even if you don't like long books I would suggest you try this one if you're a mystery person. Now it's more magical then mystery. If it was mystery then it would be much more adventurous.

11 Birthday's has a sequel called: Finally 12
I will be doing a review on that in the next week or so.

Review: The Name Of This Book Is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch

By Pseudonymous Bosch

Book Summary:
This is the story about a secret. but it also contains a secret story.

When adventurous detectives, Cass, an ever-vigilant survivalist, and Max-Ernest, a boy driven by logic, discover the Symphony of Smells, a box filled with smelly vials of colorful ingredients, they accidentally stumble upon a mystery surrounding a dead magician's diary and the hunt for immortality.

Filled with word games, anagrams, and featuring a mysterious narrator, this is a book that won't stay secret for long.

My Review:
This book is for middle graders.
This has to be one of my favorite books of all time. I love, love, love mysteries. And comedy's are my thing too. But this book combines them both.

In this book, the author is so secretive about this "secret" that the story is all about. The first chapter is all x's because he can't tell you anything in that chapter because it's all about the people, where they live and he can't let you know anything that will help you identify them!

Also the author, Pseudonymous Bosch, interacts with the reader, he acts like he is telling you the story in person. He chats with you like you are some one who just asked him about the mystery.

Max-Ernest has to be my favorite character, in the book he talks a lot and I think that relates to me. Cass is very sarcastic and she isn't as "fun." Now I'm not saying I don't like her, but she's just not my favorite character. Ms. Mauvais and Dr. L are the villains of this story. They are trying to figure out the secret that the magician, Pietro knows. And they presume that the two kids, Cass and Max-Ernest know it. And it all starts with a box that says, Symphony of Smells. But you'll have to see what happens!

Now, it is a pretty long book. Even though it is a middle grade book, it's pretty long. It is about 360 pages long. It's a long book I must say, but a great read.
